title: Fahrenheit 451
description: Ray Bradbury
date: 2023-12-20
---

This is a very famous novel about a dystopian society that burns its books to destroy knowledge and censor everything. I took up this book because of its reputation, but I must admit I did not like it much.

It must have been a visionary book when it was released and I understand why it is famous, but I find that the writing and the story really show their age. I am glad to have read it and that it was a really short story. Had it been longer, I think I would have stopped midway without finishing it.

title: The World of Yesterday
description: Stefan Zweig
date: 2023-12-14
---

The World of Yesterday is the memoir of the author who recounts his life from before the first world war until the middle of the second world war.

It was my first time reading a memoir and even though the author is really talented it was a bit difficult to read and follow some of the tangents and anecdotes. I admit I skipped some sections especially some passages about education in Vienna or some family anecdotes that I did not relate to.

But other than that it was really enlightening and I highly recommend this book. All the build up to the first world war, the changes in mentality because of propaganda and the fight for peace and understanding carried by the author, then the aftermath of the war followed by the build up to the second... This book gives a lot to think about.

title: Skyward
description: Brandon Sanderson
date: 2023-12-31

This is the first novel in the Skyward series of the author. It is a science fiction story about a group of humans living stranded on a planet in a far future, under constant threat of extinction by mysterious aliens.

There are lots of great characters and piloting action sequences. I find that this book hits all the right notes for me and I highly recommend reading it!
